If you know anyone who was at the first Phish shows here when the venue just opened, you might hear horror stories. It’s changed hands since then, I’ve heard. I’ve never had a problem and people seem to smoke em if they’ve got ’em and generally do what they please.

Once you’re in, security is not an issue. Pretty loose! Love it.

Security is pretty chill at Red Rocks. If you are respectful of others, they will leave you alone. Colorado can be a relatively enlightened place and the venue staff reflects this. They are also typically pretty kind which only adds to the experience. Make sure to thank the staff for their hard work. Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox!

Keep smoking kinda discreet and you’re home free

It was a free-for-all. Smoking everything, dancing in the isles (though I heard they were more strict when it isn’t Phish playing), plenty of other extra curricular stuff going on.

There was a metal detector you had to go through but it moved relatively quickly. Everyone was instructed to take everything out of their pockets. I did not see anyone get frisked though and security seemed pretty chill. Being San Francisco, there did seem to be a lot of left handed cigarettes around which security did not seem to mind. All the security folks seemed pretty friendly and appreciated that the Phish fanbase was very thankful to them.
